License Comparison

What You Are Buying

When you purchase a permanent license for the Web Performance Load Tester™ you get the ability to simulate a certain number of users, regardless of how many computers are on the back end, or how many computers it takes to generate the test users. Permanent licenses do not expire.

The Web Performance Load Tester™ consists of two separate programs, a "controller", the user interface which runs the test, and "load generating engines" which generate the virtual users. The load generating engines can be installed on any number of computers as needed to generate the licensed number of virtual users, but only one user at a time per license is allowed to generate a test. For example, two copies of a 500 virtual user license can not be run at the same time to simulate 1000 virtual users, but a single user could utilize a dozen different computers to generate 500 virtual users.

License Types

The Web Performance Load Tester™ software can be purchased with either a permanent fixed-seat, permanent floating, or temporary fixed-seat license depending on your needs.

Permanent Fixed-Seat

The fixed-seat license may only be installed on a single computer for use by a single person. Once the license is installed it can be moved to another computer by first deactivating the license, uninstalling the license, and the re-activating the license on a new computer.

Permanent Floating

A floating license can be installed on multiple computers, but can only be run on one computer at a time. Note that the floating license can only be shared among people in the same building. Employees in different physical locations must purchase a separate license.

Temporary Fixed-Seat

Rather than purchase a permanent license, Web Performance Load Tester™ can be rented for increments of one month. Because of the time limitation a temporary license comes with priority email and phone support. In all other respects, the licensing works exactly as a permanent license.

Frequently Asked Questions

Permanent Licenses

Can I generate 200 virtual users with a 100 virtual user license by installing it on two different computers?

The license is for the total number of virtual users regardless of the number of computers being involved. The software is designed to collate the data from multiple engines into the test results and thus circumventing the license manager results in inaccurate test results.

How long does my license last?

The license holder purchases the permanent rights to execute the purchased program with a one time payment.

How many virtual users can be simulated with my hardware?

Every attempt has been made to provide a realistic view of the software's capabilities. Due to the wide differences in computing power between different models, we can not guarantee a particular hardware platform will generate the required number of virtual users.

This is not usually an issue because of the ability to utilize the power of multiple computers to generate tests. More information can be found in the hardware requirements and manual. The maximum number of virtual users that can be generated by a single computer is five hundred.

What is an upgrade?

An upgrade is where a user moves to a new version of the software where the major or minor version number changes. For example, if the customer purchased 2.1, moving to version 2.2 is considered an upgrade. Once the support privileges in either the basic or premium support packages have expired, the user must purchase an upgrade in order to obtain a new release. Since the price of upgrading later is the same as a Premium Maintenance/Support Contract, purchasing a Premium Maintenance/Support Contract provides the best value.

How much does it cost to increase the number of virtual users?

Increasing the number of virtual users costs the difference between the two licenses. So, if you purchased a 100 virtual user license for $1,995, and the 200 virtual user license is $2,995, you'd pay the difference, or $1,000. If you are a Premium Support customer, the concept is the same, only with the price of the support contract figured into the calculation.

Temporary Licenses

How long does my license last?

The license is good for the length of the rental period, and may be renewed. Rental fees apply towards the purchase of a permanent version of the same license level or higher.

How many people can use the software at one time?

The software is licensed to generate the specified number of virtual users for a single website at one time. Multiple users can not use the software at the same time.

Can I generate 2,000 virtual users with a 1,000 virtual user license by installing it on two different computers?

The license is for the total number of virtual users regardless of the number of computers being involved. The software is designed to collate the data from multiple engines into the test results and thus circumventing the license manager results in inaccurate test results.
