Download the Installer All you have to do to get Web Performanced Trainer free is to register. Once you do, you'll receive email with the location and instructions for downloading the installer. To download the installer, chose the right file for your operating system, and click on it to download. Pick a Test Machine The test machine should be at least a 200MHz system with 64 megabytes of free memory. For more details please take a look at our hardware requirements. It takes at least as powerful a system to generate a simulated load as it takes to handle the load, so the test machine should be comparable to the server. In order to run Web Performance TrainerTM you'll need to have a high-speed network connection between the web server you'll be testing and the machine where Web Performance TrainerTM is installed. Run the Installer Windows: Double-click on the install program to execute it, and follow the program's instructions. Its the typical windows-based installer, so if you've ever installed software before, it will look familiar. Solaris: After downloading open a shell and,  cd to the directory where you downloaded the installer and run these commands: prompt> unzip wpts2_1.Z. prompt> tar -xf wpts2_1. The directory WPTrainer2_1 will be created. The next step is to run the configuration program "config". prompt> WPTrainer2_1/config. The program will ask you for the full path where you installed the program. For example, if you are installing it on your home directory, and your user name is "bob", the full path would be /home/bob/WPTrainer2_1. You've now installed everything needed for execution of the program; no other steps are necessary. Linux/Unix Instructions: Download the file wptl2_1.gz into the directory where you intend to install it. Extract the tar file using: prompt> tar -zxf wptl2_1.gz The directory WPTrainer2_1 will be created. The next step is to run the configuration program "config". prompt> WPTrainer2_1/config The program will ask you for the full path where you installed the program. For example, if you are installing it on your home directory, and your user name is "bob", the full path would be /home/bob/WPTrainer2_1. You've now installed everything needed for execution of the program; no other steps are necessary. Install The License The license file is named "License.class" and is sent to you as an email attachment. You should save it to disk in the directory <INSTALL_DIR>/com/webperfcenter, where <INSTALL_DIR> is the directory where you installed the Web Performance TrainerTM. Test The License Installation You can test the installation by running Web Performance TrainerTM. If it was successful you'll see the splash screen. Windows: Navigate to the program in the Start Menu: Start->Programs->Web Performance TrainerTM 2.1->Web Performance TrainerTM 2.1 UNIX: Change directories to the place where you installed the program, and execute it on the command line: prompt> cd WPTrainer2_1 prompt>./wptrainer Complete The License Installation Although the license has been installed, before you can record interactions with the web site, you must configure your browser to use Web Performance Trainer as a proxy server.
