View Graphs

Overview
To view graphs of your performance statistics click on the Graph tab. The graph tab allows you to create and keep multiple graphs consisting of any of the statistics available during a performance test.

The follow table gives instructions for the various common operations on graphs.

Action: Action:
Create a New Graph Use the menu sequence Edit->Create->Graph. A new graph will be added to the tabbed sequence of graphs. You can also click on the image button of a graph on the button bar.
Delete A Graph Click in the middle of the graph you wish to delete to select it, and then execute Edit->Delete Graph.
Add Data Values to the Graph This describes how to add a particular vector of data values to the graph. The values can be from any of the statistics viewable on the Statistics Tab.

You can bring up the Add Statistic Dialog by either selecting Edit->Add To Chart, or clicking on the "plus sign" on the button bar.

Selecting this menu item brings up a dialog which will let you select the data to graph, as well as set options for color and scale.

Edit Statistic When you select a statistic from the table, the menu item Edit->Edit Statistic is enabled. Selecting this menu item or double clicking on a row in the Statistics Table brings up the Add Statistics Dialog so you can then change color and scale values.

When you click OK, the chart will update for the new scale and color settings.
Delete Statistic Select the statistic you wish to delete from the Statistic Table, and execute Edit->Delete Statistic.

Y-Axis Values
Because the graph lets you compare data values that are in different units, the Y-Axis display can mean many things. The name of the statistic as shown in the table will give the units of the data values. Note that times are measured in milliseconds, so if you want to see a graph of durations in terms of seconds you need to use a scale of "0.001".

X-Axis Values
The X-Axis is in time in HH:MM:SS format, where HH is hours, MM is minutes, and SS is seconds.

Exporting Graph Data
The way to export data in Web Performance TrainerTM is to first select the data vectors you wish to examine in a graph, and then to export the graph data. This is because to export all of the raw data would result in a very complex file that would be difficult to understand. This way, you can select just the data values you're interested in, and greatly reduce the complexity of the exported file.

The data values in the graph can be exported from the File->Export->Graph Data menu item. You will be prompted to choose one of the existing graphs, and a file name to store the data. The data will be stored in text format, with the values separated by the ";" character. The file can then be imported into Excel or any spreadsheet by specifying that it uses a ";" as a delimiter. The data is arranged in columns, with the label for each column in the first row.

For example, to import data into Excel 2000, select the menu item Data->Get External Data->Import Text File. The Text Import Wizard will pop up, and you should click the Next button. On the next dialog, select semicolon as the delimeter, uncheck the tab check box, and click the next button. Clicking on the finish button will import the data into Excel. To then graph the data in Excel, select all of the data points, excluding the first column, which is always seconds. Then select the menu item Insert->Chart. When the chart dialog pops up, select the Line Chart Type, select any of the sub chart types, and click on the Next button. On the next dialog, click on the radio button to specify that the data values are in columns. Finish the chart, putting in titles if you wish, and the resulting graph will automatically have labels for each of the data vectors.

Deleting Graphs and Statistics
The Edit Menu is designed to allow deletion of any selectable item in the program. When you select either a statistic or a graph, the Edit Menu changes to indicate that it can delete your selection. For example, when you click on a graph, the Edit Menu will have a "Delete Graph" option. If you select a statistic, the Edit Menu will have a "Delete Statistic" option. Note that there must be at least one graph at all times, so you can't delete the default graph.

If you later change your mind, executing Edit->Undo will restore any deletes you may have made.

Printing Graphs
The File Menu's Print option will print the currently selected graph. Note that only the graph will print, not the table.
