Web Load Testing Analysis

Working With Files

The WPT File

File handling in Web Performance TrainerTM is conceptually similar to other file-based programs such as Microsoft Word. You can create, edit and run load tests, but until you save the changes to file, any data you have recorded or entered will be lost when you exit. The file extension the program uses is ".wpt", which will allow you to distinguish files meant for Web Performance TrainerTM from other files in your directories.

The WPT file contains your business cases, load profiles, test results and graphs. Keeping all of the data in a single file means you don't have to manage multiple files for all of the different data types.

The File Menu

The File Menu, along with the related buttons on the button bar, contains functions required to manage files in Web Performance TrainerTM. It has the following features:

Menu Item

Purpose

New

Reset the program and closes the current file. If you have changed the current file, it will first prompt you to save the changes before deleting the data from memory.

Open

Open saved test data from a .wpt file.

Close

Close the currently open file, allowing the user to open another file.

Save

Save the current test data into the current open file. If there is no file open, the user will be selected to choose a file name.

Save As

Save the current test data into a new file.

Import->Business Cases

Import business cases from another WPT file. You will be prompted to select a file ending in ".wpt". All of the business cases in the selected file will be imported into the current file.

Import->Form Data

Imports a file containing data values for use in data replacement.

Quit

Exit the program. If the current file has been changed, you will be prompted to save the data before exiting.
