Installation Download the Installer To receive an evaluation copy of Web Performance TrainerTM, simply register. You will receive email with an evaluation license key for a 15 day free trial to simulate 10 virtual users. Once you have the license key you will need to download the installer. Pick a Test Machine or Machines In order to run Web Performance TrainerTM you need to have a computer running one of the supported operating systems at the specified patch level and have a high-speed network connection between the web server you will be testing and the machine where Web Performance TrainerTM is installed. This will insure that the performance statistics being collected are the result of your server performance and not the result of network limitations. Web Performance TrainerTM can use multiple computers to generate very large loads against a web server. Each test machine should be at least a 200MHz system with 64 megabytes of free memory. For more details please refer to the hardware requirements. The software should be installed on the machine that you intend to use as the controller and on any additional machines (remote engines) that will participate in generating virtual users. Run the Installer Windows: Double-click on the install program to execute it and follow the program's instructions. Web Performance TrainerTM uses a typical windows-based installer, so it should be self-explanatory. Note that installation requires the presence of XWindows. Install the License Key The license key is a file named "WPTrainer.license" and is sent to you as an email attachment. Detach the license key and save it (for example, on your desktop. When you start Web Performance TrainerTM you will be asked for the location of this file. If you need to install a new license key over an existing license key, select Import->License from the File menu. Start The Program Windows: Navigate to the program in the Start Menu: Start->Programs->Web Performance Trainer 2.5->Web Performance Trainer Linux/Unix: From your home directory, enter the following at the command line: prompt> ./Web_Performance_Trainer When Web Performance TrainerTM starts, you will be prompted for the location of the license key, which you saved in the previous step. Web Performance TrainerTM will validate the key and display the license terms on the splash screen. Complete the Installation The software has been installed and the license key validated. The final step in the installation is configuration of your browser to work with Web Performance TrainerTM.
